WELCOME TO  EXIT 6

 26th STREET

Making 26th Street Part of the Solution

Obviously, all I-83 traffic will not use  EXIT 6   to get to the new '25th Street Station' shopping center in Remington.  Inevitably, a certain number of customer cars will end up on the 28th Street exit instead, leading them right into the middle of residential Remington.

Or not.

This traffic can and should be routed onto Sisson Street, which is entirely commercial and skirts residential Remington.

The key to this solution is 26th Street, along with these key changes to existing traffic patterns in mid-Remington:
  • Direct southbound Sisson Street traffic to turn Left onto 26th Street.  Making 26th Street two ways between Sisson Street and Huntingdon Avenue will permit this much-needed Left turn.  NOTE: This change, requested by Remington residents, is scheduled for implementation by mid-September of 2010.  Cars bound for the shopping center will be able to turn right from 26th Street into the main entrance in the 2500 block of Huntingdon Avenue.  Outbound cars will retrace this route to return to I-83.  Obviously, appropriate signage will be needed.
  • Block Huntingdon Avenue to through traffic at 26th Street.  This will reinforce the route outlined above, and keep shopping center traffic out of residential Remington.  This strategy has been used in other Baltimore neighborhoods.
